Feb 2007 Race Report : The Bead Bash 5K, 15K and Jr. 1K

Tommy Smith was the first to cross the finish line with a 5K time of 17:52.  The real race was for the next few positions with 6 runners being separated by less than a minute.  Janice Silva won the women’s 5K with a time of 22:27.  This race had some new names in the top ten.  Someone has been doing some speed work and it shows.

Tommy is not only in the exclusive Most Improved Pacers list but also currently shares the lead on the Annual Participation Awards  with Susan Sams and Bill Shaw who broke the 15K age-group record for the 15K.

Joe Beisner was the first to cross the 15K finish line in a time of 0:51:48.  Second place was almost seven minutes behind.  How impressive is that time? Wow!  Vicki Daniel won the women’s 15K with a time of 1:11:05.  She was followed by the usual group of runners rounding out the top ten.

Congratulations to all the 153 race day participants for braving the rain and cold that never quite made it.  A well done to the 25 volunteers who helped make the race a success.  A special thanks to Maria Moore for upgrading our food and beverage offering, and to the finish line team who had race results ready before most of the runners finished their cool down runs.

Best Dressed Trio Did I just see a small graceful animal with a bushy tail, living in trees and feeding on nuts?
This race is mine - is what's on Mark Trompeter's mind.  He won and his 3:46 K improved by 1 sec the 1K course record on this trail he set back in Sep 2006.  He holds most of the age records for the Kids Ks.

On the right are Belice and Bailey.  Looks like one of them is unhappy to lose.  Okay, next time, you finish ahead.
